coxbangla desk(2 october) :: Indian High Commissioner Prannoy Verma visited the historical Gandhi Ashram in Noakhali on Monday (2nd October) on the occasion of the 154th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation of India.
At this time, he offered a wreath to the father of the nation of India.
High Commissioner Verma addressed the seminar titled ‘Gandhiji’s Quest for Peace and Harmony in Noakhali and its Relevance in the Contemporary World’ organized by the Gandhi Ashram Trust.
At that time, he mentioned in his speech that Gandhiji’s belief in the inherent goodness of humanity and his steadfast belief in peace and non-violence as a force for change are as relevant today as they were during India’s freedom struggle.
He emphasized that Gandhiji’s historic visit to Noakhali in 1946 exemplified the extraordinary power of dialogue, empathy and understanding in the face of great obstacles.
His unflinching dedication to the principles of non-violence and communal harmony not only comforted Noakhali but also left an indelible mark on the conscience of humanity.
The High Commissioner also noted that the celebration of the International Day of Non-Violence every year on Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary reaffirms the universality of the values of peace, non-violence, tolerance and understanding and highlights their relevance in confronting current global challenges, such as terrorism.
The International Day of Non-Violence is India’s firm commitment to this long-standing belief that no cause can justify violence and humanity will always prevail, he said.
High Commissioner Verma visited the museum at the Gandhi Ashram displaying memorabilia related to Gandhiji’s visit to Noakhali in 1946 and encouraged the Gandhi Ashram Trust to continue its regular collaboration and exchange with various institutions dedicated to Gandhian studies in India.
